Our MYF Musical History In Wesley Church Sitiawan
A general description of the musicals in the past since the completion of our new Church building in Sitiawan.

2001 - He Chose The Nails
This year's Musical was another creative effort - under the leadership of Ling Yoke Li. This idea was conceived out of the desire to put up a more evangelistic approach to the Musical, when all other themes seem to fizzle out nowhere.....

When 'He Chose The Nails' was finalized as this year's theme there were some glitches, firstly due to the fact that only the CD and cassette versions of that Musical were available, the Choral Book did not come along - as a result, for the first time known in the Musical history, a "choral guide" was created by means of scorewriting. And it took the arranger a span of ten days spread out to arrange for the choir and scan them stage by stage and the results were overwhelming..........

2000 - Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire
The true feel of Northern Ireland captures and empassions the listener as they praise God in this amazing worship album 'Revival in Belfast'. Robin Mark leads worship on this praise and worship CD in a fiery blaze. A strong Spirit of God and awe of His presence encapsulate every note.
Mark sings many of his own originals, including "Revival", "You're The Lion of Judah", and "Days of Elijah", as well as other known songs, like Shout to the North. For a truly incredible worship experience with the spirit of Ireland, turn an ear to the joyful noise of Robin Mark.

Songlist:
Garments of Praise/Shout To The North/Revival/You're the Lion of Judah/With All Faith/How Great Are You, Lord/There Is No Other Name/Jesus, All For Jesus/When It's All Been Said And Done/Be Unto Your Name/Days Of Elijah
In the Sitiawan Wesley MYF version this set has been made hybrid with a few songs from "Saviour" (Warner Alliance), namely, 'Overture','In The Beginning','Where Are You, Adam'?,'Cross Of Love','Man Of Sorrows' and 'So Shall We Live'. Incorporating it was a dance-drama which discussed areas of human strife and the wanderings of man as a result of man's fall which man eventually desires revival in their lives and that the only solution was the work Jesus Christ did on Calvary. Then, the second part was a dance-cum-praise musical based on Revival In Belfast, which for the very first time after perhaps some long lapse (who knows?) guys displaying their kilts in the Irish dance segue of "You're The Lion Of Judah"............

1999 - My Utmost For His Highest
In 1999, My Utmost won the prestigious "Musical of the Year" Dove Award from the 5500 -member Gospel Music Association. On this web page, we'll continue to post some of the testimonies coming from churches who have experienced My Utmost. If you want to share your church's testimony, just email it to.
In the Klang Valley, this CD version should be available in major Christian bookstores around....friends please take note......especially those who want or plan to run Christian drama/musicals.

Gary Rhodes's message:

My Utmost for His Highest is an adult worship musical with narration, solos, ladies trio, men's trio, duet and congregational participation with one medley that incorporates the option of using children and youth to capture the timelessness of God's majesty and awesome wonder. Before making any decision on the musical, I would urge you to get a listening tape and listen through once in its entirety to get a true feel for the message and vision of this musical. Oswald Chambers's writings and life all point to the importance of living a life of surrender and abandon to God - the believer's personal relationship with the Lord is the most important thing - he said to "keep this one thing before you always".

The Sitiawan Wesley MYF staged this musical in 1999 Chinese New Year period (2 stagings) and in the course of its running, there were a couple of hiccups including the slight delay of the lyrics and choirbook's arrival, as Mr. K.N. Ling had earlier placed an order of the choirbook directly from the USA (Thanks be to God for enabling its success...)This version started with a small chronological play where the lead actor role was played by Eddy Ting, as a nominal Christian who from the MYF days till adulthood led an unprecedented double life in which he experienced his downfall due to the Stock Market Crash and turned to the Lord with the aid of another old buddy, and thus the hymn "Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling" followed, and then, the full length of "My Utmost",with the song list as follows:

1. Intro Overture (I'd Rather Have Jesus)
2. The Call
3. Joy Medley(Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee with Cry of My heart)
4. I'm Abandoned
5. Light Medley(I Want To Walk As A Child Of Light with Shine On Me with Shine, Jesus, Shine)
6. Alone With You with Man After Your own Heart with Oh, I Want To Know You More
7. Awesome Wonder Medley(Awesome Wonder with Awesome God with How Great Thou Art)
8. At The Name of Jesus
9. For You Alone
10.I Surrender All and All of Me
11.Finale: Agnus Dei (Michael W. Smith) with Holy, Holy, Holy with The Call and I'm Abandoned
1998 - The Touch Of The Master's Hand
1998 saw the staging of the musical 'The Touch of the Master's Hand', as usual on Chinese New Year period but this time round Mr. K.N. Ling was in a desperate move to rope in talents, especially soloists because of shortage of personnel and as a result many outstation and ex-MYFers were involved including bros. David Nga Ko Cheng and Alan Ling Sing. With an introductory monologue by Mr. K.N. Ling himself, where he later illustrated the story of an old, unwanted violin in an auction sale in a mime form based on the song of the same title (produced somewhere in the Eighties) where the auctioneer, tired of waiting finally had a client came in and dusted the violin and played it melodically and sweet to portray Jesus Christ paying the price for our unworthiness. The segue was later followed by the whole length of the musical 'Every Tongue Confess'.

General Information on 'Every Tongue Confess' from jjonline.com

Award-winning producer Greg Nelson draws upon the talents of seasoned songwriters Gary Driskell and Marty Hennis to bring us this innovative, contemporary musical! Featuring 8 brand new songs for Easter, Every Tongue Confess is a church musical for th 90's! Choirs will welcome Gary Driskell's singable vocal arrangements, while instrumentalists and congregations alike will be drawn to David Hamilton's successful mix of rhythm, orchestra and synthesizer. A unique feature of Every Tongue Confess is the moving testimonial service written by Gary and Marty. Throughout the musical, testimonies of 1st century Christians are interwoven with testimonies from actual chruch members, highlighting the power of the believer's personal witness. The work urges the audience to leave the past behind and compels them to boldly share their witness with others! For churches preferring a full-scale drama, Deborah Craig-Claar has provided a powerful script that parrallels two of Jesus' disciples - one 1st century, one 20th century - as both are attempting to escape the past and the future. The story finds Peter and Randy trapped by inertia - suspended - Peter drifting in his boat (note the "We've been fishing with nets that have HOLES in them!" line) and Randy wandering on his computer screen. Other witnesses from the 1st and 20th centuries tell their stories in an urgent manner, creating a sharp contrast with Peter and Randy's inability to move. It is only when the resurrected Lord boldy rej-enters their lives and redirects their efforts to His side of the boat that these two characters find their "shore".
52-57 Minutes in length.

In the MYF Musical context, this Musical had its DEBUT outing at the Sitiawan Wesley Methodist Church Sanctuary (previously it was mostly held at the ACS Old Hall - now ACS Primary School Hall, where some 'firsts' were recorded down history, namely:

1) Inception of a full Musicians' Section consisting of the pianist, 2nd keyboardist, percussionist, drummer and bass guitarist. Musicals in the past used to have just the piano backing the choir with at the most, perhaps the drums.

2) Inception of a full-fledged dance movement (flag-wavers and tambourine dancers) and ballet sequence with choir and music backing (note ONE photo of a flag mishap) and not forgetting the all-male ala Broadway segue of the swingy song "The Gathering".

In this edition, the musical starts with a play incorporating testimonies of men sharing about their strife in life through "Isn't Our Lord Beautiful?" and "God is Greater". Then a group of young ladies went discussing about their strengths and shortcomings with a reminder of being significant in God's eyes through the song "Ordinary People". Then came a play consisting of a man who once loved God in his youth but later turned cold in his faith until he had to face reality only to have contracted AIDS (note the infamous 'Lembu punya susu, sapi punya nama' line delivered by bro. Eric Hong) that wrapped up with "Jesus Paid It All". Other notables include the defeat of Satan with the song "Under The Blood" and God's love's display through "As High As The Heavens" and the haunting warning of God's coming again through the song "Midnite Cry", followed by that 'hit', "The Gathering", and then the full-length "Mighty Cross" followed and ended with a movable BIG crown hung across the aisle at "Behold The Lamb/He Is The King".
